U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) released the following statement on the Consumer Price Index, which rose to 7.9 percent in February – the largest increase since January 1982.

“Month after month, prices are skyrocketing at the gas pump and the grocery store. Despite his empty promises, President Biden has failed to stop inflation from reaching record-breaking highs. Spurred by the Democrats’ reckless spending and their full-scale assault on American-made energy, inflation – now at a 40-year peak – continues to spiral out of control. Increasing prices on gas and everyday necessities are hurting every Hoosier family – and they can be deadly for seniors on a fixed income who are forced to choose between food and fuel this winter. Combined with climbing gas prices, persistent supply chain bottlenecks, and workforce shortages, surging inflation is a recipe for disaster. We can’t afford the Biden Administration’s out-of-touch agenda.”

Walorski represents the 2nd Congressional District of Indiana, serving as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Ranking Member of the House Ethics Committee.
