Officer Blake Bennett with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop Friday, March 4th at approximately 4:00 p.m. in the area of South Michigan Street and Jackson Heights Road.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 29-year-old Sergio Perez of Plymouth.

During the traffic stop, K9 Diesel was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotic odors in the vehicle.  Conducting a search of the vehicle the officer located suspected cocaine in the vehicle.

Sergio was transported to the Marshall County Jail and booked for possession of cocaine or a narcotic drug. He bonded out about 8:45 Friday evening.  

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by officers of the Plymouth Police Department.

 Readers are reminded that charging information supported by an affidavit of probable cause is merely an allegation that a crime has been committed and that there is only probable cause to believe a crime has been committed. They are presumed innocent throughout the proceedings and are entitled to be represented by counsel and entitled to a trial by jury at which the State is obligated to provide proof beyond a reasonable doubt before a judgment of guilt may be made.
