Last week the Marshall County Commissioners considered the ordinance amendment making shipping containers permissible in certain zoning districts.

The ordinance amendment was initiated by the Marshall County Plan Commission

A Shipping Container is allowed in the A-1, C-1, C-2, I-1 and I-2 districts regardless of parcel size.  There are conditions including that the shipping container be the same color as adjacent structures and the containers be kept in good repair and can only be used for cold storage.  A second shipping container is permissible for lots greater than 5 acres.

The Commissioners passed the ordinance amendment on 1st reading on October 28th after having a public hearing.  They then discussed the proposed ordinance amendment on February 21st and eventually unanimously passed the ordinance on second and third reading.
