After a year off due to COVID, the Plymouth Tri Kappa Promenade to Prom will
return to provide free prom dresses to young ladies in the area on Saturday, February
19, 2022. The event will be held on campus at Marian University’s Ancilla College for
the third year. “Although we were not able to have the event in 2021, we still collected
dresses and have over 500 dresses to offer this year,” said event chair Stacey Patrick.
“We are excited to pull the dresses out of storage and get them into the hands of young
ladies who may need some help to afford one of the most exciting events of high
school.”

Promenade to Prom began in 2009 as an option to make prom more affordable
and accessible for more young ladies. “Everyone should have the opportunity to attend
their high school prom, but we had noticed the rising cost and wanted to provide a
solution,” said Patrick. From the original event that offered about 200 dresses and
dispersed about 50, the collection of dresses has now exceeded 500 and about 200
dresses were given out in 2020, before COVID forced the cancellation of most proms.
“Thanks to the generosity of the community, we receive donations of dresses each year
that are worn once and then offered to us to provide young ladies the opportunity to
find their perfect dress for the special evening.”

Tri Kappa Beta Delta has partnered with Marian University’s Ancilla College to
provide a great shopping experience. The dresses are set up “boutique style” in a large
room in the college, and then classrooms are transformed into dressing rooms so young
ladies and their family and friends can have the experience of trying on several dresses
at a time until they find the perfect dress. A limited selection of shoes and accessories
are available as well. The event is open to students from around the area, but please
bring student id. Shoppers may select more than one dress, the first one is free,
additional dresses are just $10 each.

The event will be Saturday, February 19 from 9am to noon at Marian University’s
Ancilla College, 20097 9B Road, follow the signs to parking and to enter the building.
