Members of the Marshall County Drainage Board hear the variance request of Lavern Borkholder from B & B Construction to build an agricultural pole barn building within 62 feet of the Sarah Hershberger Ditch Monday morning.

Property owner Ruben Borkholder said the proposed barn is 100 feet by 50 feet and will be used for storage of farming supplies and equipment.

County Surveyor Craig Cultice said only the northeast corner of the building will be within the county 75-foot right-of-way.  He also said there is still plenty of space to maintain the ditch.

The County Drainage Board approved the variance request.  They also noted that the pictures of the Sarah Hershberger Ditch make them think some maintenance work should be conducted on the ditch in the next few years.
