Adam Thada, a member of the Marshall County Park and Recreation Board told members he’s been researching a Natural Features Inventory for the Memorial Forest.  He presented members with a sample document from the LaPorte County Park Department.

His recommendation is to conduct surveys of the property 2 to 3 times next year during the various growing seasons.  Thada said that would allow a complete inventory of plants and invasive species along with fungus and reptiles and birds.

Thada felt hiring a company with expertise in the Natural Features Inventory would give them the best results for a high-quality survey.  He also noted there are a few grants available that could assist in funding the study.

Members were interested but want to get more information before they consider seeking Requests for Proposals from at least three companies and applying for a grant.
