Members of the Marshall County Park and Recreation Board were updated on the historic West Township Trustee Cabin during their meeting last week.  While committee chairman, Dick Markley was absent from the meeting, member Deb VanDeMark told the board Yoder Log and Timber from Nappanee has approved the contract and will be signing it and sending it back to the County Park Board for signature by Park Board President Greg Hildebrand.

Indications from Yoder Log and Timber is that weather dependent they will start after the first of the year.

While the County Park Board’s initial thoughts were to move the cabin across the road to property on the old West School site, additional discussion had members looking at the Memorial Forest site.  The idea of moving the cabin to the Memorial Forest would make it easier for school buses to access the site.

While an exact location for the cabin is yet to be determined, VanDeMark said she investigated having electricity available at the site.  She said there are 2 poles on 14th Road that are NIPSCO.  She made an inquiry about service and NIPSCO is sending a packet of additional information on the request for electricity.

Members of the Marshall County Park and Recreation Board will each take time to look at the Memorial Forest property in the near future to determine the best location for the historic West Township Trustee Cabin.
