Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel and County Health Department Administrator Faith Freed asked the County Commissioners for permission to apply for grants during their meeting Monday.

Sheriff Hassel requested to apply for a $20,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources for Marine Patrol Assistance Grant.  These fund help cover some of the cost for lake patrol at Lake Maxinkuckee.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer asked if the agreement with the Lake Max Association was up-to-date and County Attorney Jim Clevenger said the agreement has been in place for quite some time but it was updated about 18 months ago.  Overmyer said he was curious because costs are continuing to go up and it the lake association is paying the increased costs.

Sheriff Hassel said the lake association is paying most of the cost.  This year he received a $10,000 grant from the DNR and the lake association paid over $50,000 additional for the services provided.

Faith Freed asked to apply for the Crisis Co Ag and Supplemental Workforce in School Grant in the amount of $110,000. While the funds will cover the salary, the employee’s benefits are not covered by the grant.

She told the commissioners this grant will fund an employee to work with the schools for contact tracing, COVID, COVID education, and getting more vaccinations in the schools.

The County Commissioners approved her request to apply for the grant.
