Marshall County Sheriff Matthew Hassel released the name of the Marshall County officer involved with the officer involved shooting on Sunday November 28 in Culver Monday morning.

Sergeant Matthew Brown, a 14-year veteran of the law enforcement division of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department was the officer. Sergeant Brown is also a certified accident reconstructionist for the department.

Sheriff Hassel said, “Per our standard operating procedure we do not release the name of an officer involved in a shooting until after they are interviewed and have given their statement to the agency that is investigating the incident.”

The incident happened Sunday afternoon, November 28th just after 2 when a Culver Police Officer attempted to stop the driver of a white Chevrolet passenger car that was suspected of driving while intoxicated on State Road 17, west of Culver.  The driver was identified as 33-year-old Dylan Bush of Culver, led officers on a pursuit through Marshall County.

Bush eventually stopped in the parking lot of the Park N Shop on North Lake Shore Drive in Culver.

Officer Brown stopped his police vehicle in front of the Chevrolet and exited his police vehicle when it is alleged that Bush drove forward pinning Deputy Brown between the Chevrolet and his police vehicle. At that point Officer Brown fired several rounds striking the driver who was killed.

The Indiana State Police are investigating the incident and will forward their report on to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
