Lifetime Argos resident, Opal B. Bowell, 103, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at Hickory Creek in Rochester after 2 months of care. Prior to that, Opal had lived in her home, very independently.
Born in Argos, Indiana on March 3, 1918, Opal was one of three girls born to Dilas D. and Augusta F. (Abair) Fear. She graduated from Argos High School with the class of 1936.
In the Christian Church in Argos, Opal married Everett L. Bowell on February 19, 1938. She enjoyed traveling with Everett on his job of 25 years with Gast Construction in their travel trailer. Opal loved shopping, eating out, was an avid reader, and loved fishing.
She worked for United Telephone Company as a switchboard operator and at the Argos Candy Kitchen. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 68 in Plymouth.
Opal is survived by her beloved nieces and nephews, of many generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Zella Hooker and Mary Snyder.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021, from 11-12 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth.
A funeral procession will follow to the Maple Grove Cemetery in Argos for a committal service.
