Last week U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.) exposed the child care provisions included in President Biden and the Democrats’ budget reconciliation bill that would effectively eliminate faith-based child care options by ending a longstanding policy that allows parents to choose providers through the Child Care and Development Fund program.

“President Biden and Democrats are unashamedly pushing a radical tax and spend agenda and power grab that will exert more control than ever over Americans’ lives – from cradle to grave. Their budget reconciliation bill attacks parents’ rights from their child’s earliest days by eliminating faith-based child care options,” said Congresswoman Walorski. “American parents already are sounding the alarm on what is being taught in public schools – just wait until they find out that their only option for day care is a government-appointed provider. This is an attack on parents and Americans’ religious freedom.”

This legislation also would require that all providers comply with federal nondiscrimination statutes. Religious organizations, whose child care programs are currently exempt from some such laws, argue that it would effectively block many of their providers from participating.

According to a survey by the Bipartisan Policy Center, child care centers and preschools affiliated with religious organizations serve 53 percent of families in this country.

On the House Floor Thursday, Congresswoman Walorski exposed this hidden proponent in the Democrats’ legislation. Watch here.

Walorski represents the 2nd Congressional District of Indiana, serving as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and the Ranking Member of the House Ethics Committee.
