Commissioner of the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles Peter L. Lacy announced Wednesday the Walkerton License Branch will permanently close. Staff and other resources currently supporting Walkerton will shift to other nearby branches. The last day of operation is Friday, Dec. 3, 2021.

Walkerton residents will continue to be served by the Nappanee branch, as well as by nearby Plymouth, Goshen, and LaPorte branches. The Nappanee branch, which was serving customers Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, will shift operating hours to two days a week, Wednesday and Friday. The last day of operations for the current schedule is Friday, Dec. 3.

“Speaking with the Walkerton residents at the public hearing it was evident they are very passionate about their community. The decision to close Walkerton and adjust Nappanee’s hours came after thorough review of community feedback as well as an assessment of both branches and the surrounding area. Transferring resources is the BMV’s best option to provide the most innovative and customer-focused government service possible,” said Commissioner Lacy.

Multiple branch options remain within a 30-minute drive for Walkerton residents. There are eight BMV Connect kiosks in the local area including an out-of-branch option within the Plymouth Kroger. BMV Connect offers customers the opportunity to complete over a dozen key BMV transactions 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
