The Bourbon Town Council was updated on several items during their meeting on October 12th

Council President Ward Byers told members he met with Jeremy Riffle, Triton School Superintendent about the school crossing at the intersection of Schafer Road and Harris Street.  He said neighbors on the north side of Harris Street made a request to the school corporation for a crosswalk. He said a study was completed and determined about 10 children cross in that area on their way to and from school daily.

The town will paint a school crossing on the street and place the appropriate signage on either side to warn drivers of children crossing.  Byers noted, “It will be an unsupervised crossing.”

The Bourbon Town Council approved the plan.

Byers said the new playground equipment in the park has been installed.  There was still some surface material to be placed for completion but the equipment is usable.  Byers said the new Expressions Swing has been installed and allows the parent and small child to swing face-to-face together.  He also said the basketball – pickleball court has been milled out and the contractor is working to put in the new surface and backfill around the edges.  In November the fencing company is scheduled to put in all new fencing.  Byer said the remaining work will be completed next spring.  He said the state has given them until August of 2022 to close out the project with the $30,000 IHCDA funds.

The 74-acre Farm lease with Chad Nifong was approved by the Bourbon Town Council.  The town approved the three-year renewal at an annual yearly payment of $20,000.

The children of Bourbon will be able to Trick or Treat on Saturday, October 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. in the neighborhoods.

Roger Terry, the Bourbon Street Superintendent told council members leaf pick-up will begin on Wednesday, October 20th. Citizens should rake their leaves to the curb.  There should only be leaves and no sticks in the piles.  The town will pick them up weekly.  The Bourbon Street Department asks that you not place the leaves in plastic bags.  Leave pick-up will continue through October and into late November.  If you have questions on leaf pick-up call the Town Clerk’s office at 5740342-4755.
