During the Bourbon Town Council meeting on Tuesday, September 14th, Clerk Treasurer Kim Berger told members the annual Scarecrow contest will be happening in October.

Scarecrows will be displayed throughout the Town of Bourbon from October 1st through October 31st. Registration form should be submitted by the end of the day on Friday, September 24th to the Town of Bourbon Clerk’s Office during regular business hours or placed in the Clerk’s Office drop box. Forms may also be emailed to Kim Berger at kberger@bourbon-in.gov.

The Bourbon Scarecrow Contest is open to individuals, businesses, organizations and clubs. There is no fee for entry. All scarecrows must be in place by October 1st to be considered for the contest.

Scarecrow displays may start being set up beginning Sunday, September 26th.  The construction should be durable as they may be subjected to severe weather conditions. Please secure the scarecrow to ensure it stays in place. Scarecrow entry sponsors are required to monitor the state of their scarecrow for the duration of the exhibit.

Scarecrows must be in good taste and appropriate for viewing by the public and families and must be absent of adult or political themes. No frightening, scary, violent, gruesome or bloody entries will be accepted.  Scarecrows may be displayed on your own property or place of business. If you would prefer to have your scarecrow displayed in the downtown area as opposed to your own property, please contact the Clerk’s Office for available locations.

A registration form for all scarecrows is required by the end of business on Friday, September 24th so that accommodations may be made for placement of other entries. Any entry not registered will be removed.

A panel of Judges will review all entries and decide on the top scarecrows. Winners will be announced and recognized at the October 12th Town Council Meeting. Prizes will be awarded.  1st place is $100, 2nd place will receive $75, 3rd place gets $50 and 44th place will be given $25.

Scarecrows set up downtown may be removed starting November 1st. All scarecrows not reclaimed by November 4th will be removed and discarded.

The Bourbon Town Council also set Trick-or-Treat in the neighbors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 30th.
