The Marshall County Commissioners have called a joint work session with the County Council.

The special joint meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, September 20th in the second-floor meeting room of the County Building.  The reason for the joint work session is for the purpose of discussing the Special Local Income Tax (LIT) that was created to pay the bond issue for the jail.

The Special LIT could be paid-off as early as August 2022 but the county is now using nearly $3 million dollars from the Special LIT for jail operations.  If the Special LIT is paid off early the county will need to determine a way to fund those additional operations at the jail.

There have also been some questions if the Special LIT could pay for the additional $1.5 million needed to complete the Courthouse renovation project.

The special joint work session is open to the public but the public will not be allowed to speak since the meeting is a work session.
