The new owners of Plymouth Speedway announced Thursday that they are taking the track back to asphalt!  In a Facebook post the Sauer Management Team said changes are coming to the Plymouth racetrack for the 2022 season.  The press release follows.

Race fans, drivers, crews, and officials. We want to first and foremost thank you for your support of the Plymouth Motor Speedway for the 2021 season. We are all aware of the rumors that have been going around for the past few weeks and we wanted to take this time and clear the air and explain the plan for the 2022 racing season at the Plymouth Motor Speedway.

First the Micro Track in the middle will remain dirt and will continue to host shows for the 2022 season. Our current plan is to run 7 Friday Nights for the 600 Mini Sprints and a few HUGE shows on Saturdays. Our goal is to have one of the biggest 600 Mini Sprint shows around in 2022. We will also be working on a rules package and classes for Winged 600s and other classes as well.

We will also continue to run the go karts, Lawn Mowers, and Mini Wedges every other Sunday with a consistent schedule, staff, and set of rules. In 2022 we will run a points system for these Sunday shows and have track champions in all classes.

Now on to the big track. We will begin to remove the dirt in September. We will be keeping all the dirt for future use. The current plan for 2022 is to bring the Plymouth Motor Speedway back to asphalt. We know you have a lot of questions about the surface and we can say we are starting the removal process as soon as we can to allow us time to make sure the asphalt racing surface is perfect.

We plan to run 7 Friday Night shows on asphalt and to also run four of the biggest Outlaw Late Model races in the Midwest. These events will take place on select Saturdays and the purse will be incredible for each and every driver including an attendance bonus for drivers who race each of the four shows increasing every show you attend. These shows will be scheduled in May, June, July, and September. We will have all the info very soon.

Night Of Destruction drivers we will have a couple of shows for you as well with a joint points system with the South Bend Motor Speedway for the Night Of Destruction events!!! We also are looking at adding in some BIG concerts and a rodeo to help make Plymouth Speedway one of the premier destinations in the Mid-West for all types of Entertainment. This will also help ensure the Plymouth Motor Speedway is around for a very long time!!!

We will also work hand in hand with the South Bend Motor Speedway to have two tracks with identical rules and many of the same staff members and officials.

We will be working out all the details and providing more info every week as we move forward.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Sara Tarlton or Tony Eldridge.

Thank you

The Sauer Management Team.
