The Marshall County Commissioner took quick action on the four quotes to demolish the buildings at 211 West Jefferson Street, the former Doug Hite and Joe Simanski Law offices.
Doug Masterson, head of the county’s Building and Grounds Department presented the quotes to the commissioners during their meeting on Monday. Quotes were received from Chain-of-Lakes in Plymouth for $35,000; Jackson Demolition Services of Rochester quoted $35,000 plus $25 per square foot for any asbestos mitigation. Jerry Reed’s Excavating of Mishawaka presented a quote of $18,500 and the low quote came from Langfeldt Excavating for $18,270.
Demolition includes the home, garage and television tower. S & S Tree Service is scheduled to remove the trees on the property later this week. Demolition includes removal of the basement and filling in the hole in accordance with city code.
The commissioners plan to have the demolition and clean-up completed by May 1st so the contractor making repairs to the courthouse can stage his equipment and materials on the site.
