County HIghway Department buildingCounty Highway Superintendent Jason Peters updated the County Commissioners last week on the activities in his department.

The drainage project the county has been working on with Chris Waidner on 2B Road at Donneybrook is ready to be send out for requests for proposals to contractors for the project.

Peters presented the commissioners with a contract agreement from INDOT for the Community Crossings Grant second round of funding for ar2020.  The Commissioners unanimously approved the agreement.  He also said the quarterly tracking of all federal aid projects is due to MACOG by the end of the year with the county’s review scheduled for January 6 and the final due to INDOT by January 20th.  This includes bridges 232, 11,73, 87 and 120 along with the bridge inspections.

County Highway Employees have been patching, grading, cutting brush and berming roads.  Peters said all painting is completed and that he is still working on selecting roads for the 2021 road program.

The Highway Superintendent said he is working with the representative from Republic First National on the current truck leases that will be paid off in 2022.  He is interested in leasing several new trucks when the current lease is up and said they could be delivered in November 2021 with payments to begin in January 2023.  That would keep the same lease payment schedule going for another 5 years.  The current lease payment is $231,421.51 annually.
