The first ever, Senior Squad Induction Ceremony was recently conducted at Triton High School. The purpose of the event was to honor and recognize the senior scholars for being chosen to represent the Triton student body in hopes of continuing to improve the school and community.
Created by Abigail Powel, two years ago, this year’s selected Triton seniors have answered the call to make a difference during their senior year, a time that could very easily be a time to coast into the finish line. Instead, the school will ask you to finish strong, make a difference, and lead by example.
During the induction ceremony they reviewed some of the expectations that the honor of being a Senior Squad member brings. Students were chosen to create a culture of leadership that models Trojan Pride, the Trojan Way – It’s putting others above self and consistently going above and beyond what is expected. Senior Squad member will be a living, breathing example of Trojan PRIDE: Participate wholeheartedly, Have a positive attitude and mindset and Intentionally find ways to encourage and help others.
The Seniors were challenged by Author and Motivational Speaker, Todd Gongwer to be leaders by living out several principals that align very closely with Trojan PRIDE (Personal Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Determination) and The Trojan Way (Others over Self). He said, “Now, more than ever before, we need leaders to rise up. We cannot sit idly by and preach Trojan PRIDE but not be willing to walk the walk. I am convinced our school corporation is ready for student leaders to provide them with positive leadership that inspires them to rally around causes and relationships which can have a lasting impact on our school/community/world. Some may call me naïve, but I honestly believe the world is always ready for more changemakers – especially young adults – who realize the only real power that matters is the power to inspire.”
