PRIDE ID CardFriday evening a “soft launch” of the PRIDE (Plymouth Resident Identification Endorsement) ID Card was held at Plymouth High School with several invited dignitaries and a few wanting to apply for the new ID card.

Juan Constantino, Development Coordinator of La Casa de Amistad said the PRIDE Card is an identification card that will only be recognized in Plymouth.  It will allow residents to apply for an ID card that will identify them as a city resident with their name, address and photo.

The ID card is not issued by a government agency so it has limitations, but would provide proof of residency that they could use to apply for a library card, turn on some utilities and even enter into a school building.

Any resident wishing to obtain a PRIDE Card must call La Casa de Amistad at 574-233-2120 and make an appointment for the application process.  The office is open 9 to noon and 1 to 6.

The first regular application day will be Friday, February 7th at Plymouth High School.  Constantino said they have already booked 60 appointments for the Feb. 7th three hour session.  The next scheduled application day will be February 15th.

Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter said Plymouth is the third city in the state to offer the local ID cards.  South Bend has been issuing the cards for three years and Goshen for two years.
