County News # 1The Marshall County Commissioners conducted their first meeting of 2020 on Monday morning, January 6th.

The first order of business was the reorganization of the board.  Commissioners Stan Klotz motioned to keep the same officers with Kevin Overmyer as President and Stan Klotz as Vice President.  Commissioner Mike Burroughs will be the member.  The Commissioners also appointed department heads for 2020.  There were no changes.  Department heads will be Pam Schweizer-Betz at the Veterans Service Officer, Jason Peters County Highway Superintendent, Clyde Avery Emergency Management Director, Jerry Huss Weights and Measures, Doug Masterson County Building & Grounds for the Court House, County Building and Museum, John Greer Building & Grounds for the Jail, Linda Rippy Director of the County Museum, Michael Marshall as the county’s IT Director, Chuck DeWitt Building Commissioner and Jim Clevenger as the County Attorney.

The Marshall County Commissioners also made appointments to various boards. Don Fox was reappointed to the Culver Plan Commission as was Mark Gidley to the Plymouth Plan Commission and Stan Klotz, Matt Miller and Dan Vories to the County Plan Commission.   Jeff Gustafson and Matt Miller were reappointed to the County Board of Zoning Appeals while Commissioner Kevin Overmyer was reappointed to the MACOG Board.  The commissioners reappointed Trend Weldy and Joe Martin to the MACOG Regional Development Board and Rhonda Ferguson, Matt Hassel and Mindy Relos Penrose to the County Sick Bank Board.

The Commissioners also reappointed several members to the Community Corrections Board: Francis Ellert, Andy Hartley, Judy Stone, Sam Schlosser, James “BJ” Brown, Dave Hinderlider and new appointment Lindy Leary.   The Commissioners also appointed Mike Burroughs to the Unsafe Building Committee and U.S. 30 Collation while Kevin Overmyer was reappointed to the Central Dispatch Committee.

The commissioners tabled an appointment to the 4-H Fair Board since none of them remember doing an appointment in previous years.  They will investigate and see if they should be making an appointment, if so they will do that at their January 21st meeting.

The final appointment was Stan Klotz to the Safety Committee.  He indicated a plan to reorganize the committee with the assistance of Insurance Consultant Mike Miley, a representative from Gibson Insurance and the County EMA Director.  They hope is to narrow down to committee a bit.
