M.C. Jail 8-9-12_distantOn Tuesday, November 26th the Marshall County Commissioners and County Council will meet for a joint meeting to be briefed on the proposed construction of an additional pod at the Marshall County Jail.

During the special joint meeting the commissioners and council will be learn about funding possibilities by Baker Tilly.  They are looking at the possibility of paying off the current bond on the jail and taking out a new one or rolling this addition into the current bond and lengthening out the terms.

RQAW will be on hand with results of the feasibility study and options on the size of the pod and options on building it out.

During the commissioners meeting on Monday, President Kevin Overmyer said the joint meeting is not a work session but a meeting where decisions could be made.

Obviously the reason the Commissioners are pursuing an addition on the jail is due to the overcrowding situation.  During Monday’s meeting the Sheriff said the population was in the 270’s while the recommended capacity of the jail is 239.

The joint meeting is open to the public and begins at 9 a.m. in the Commissioner’s meeting room on the second floor of the County Building.
