Plymouth Community SchoolsDuring Tuesday’s Plymouth School Board meeting, Superintendent Andy Hartley highlighted two partnerships the corporation is working with to ensure students have access to food.

Hartley said the corporation has been able to help some 200 students in grades K thru 6th with food outside of the meals served onsite by partnering with Cultivate Food Rescue and the Blessings in a Backpack programs.

The Cultivate Food Rescue program helps to fill the gap between potentially wasted food and those who may be experiencing food insecurity. The program just started with the Plymouth schools a couple of weeks ago and is currently providing 50 frozen microwavable meals.

Blessing in a Backpack utilizes local contributions and volunteers to fill backpacks that students can take home over the weekend.

Hartley said, “Child hunger and food insecurity is certainly a real challenge for a percentage of our children.  I would like to thank these organizations for their efforts in partnership with our schools to ensure our kids have their basic food needs met.”
