Earlier this month, members of the Plymouth City Council were updated on the four proposed city project for the Regional Stellar application by City Attorney Sean Surrisi.
The biggest project for the city is the Entrepreneurial Hub that is planned for the Old Firehouse at the corner Center and Washington Streets. The project also includes moving the Marshall County Economic Development Corporation into the building. Surrisi said, “This would be a co-working entrepreneurial space managed by the MCEDC.” He said the city has had discussions the last couple of weeks with the South Bend Elkhart Regional Partnership, the University of Notre Dame’s Idea Center and their new LIFT program. The idea is to bring some of that programming and connections with the university down to the E-Hub.
Another project is phase III of River Park Square. The would bring a walking path into the downtown park with lights, a natural playground, a veteran’s plaza that would focus on honoring veterans of recent wars, of the last 20 year.
The City Attorney presented plans from 2008 for railroad viaduct and the South Gateway street improvement plan. The project would probably change from the 2008 plan but would include more improvements at the viaduct with the walkway and some manner of streetscaping, to fix up the south entry into the city.
The final project would be an income based housing project called Riverside Meadows.
The city attorney will continue to work on finalizing the plans and said, “I will be coming to you asking for support in the form of a resolution and also adopting an inter-local agreement that formulizes the relationship with the other towns and the County in the event they we are designated for Stellar.”
