Blueberry_quilt 8-19-19WTCA has just recently learned of one fatality from the February 2018 record-setting flood.

One of the very first Blueberry sculptures placed in River Park Square floated off its pedestal and went into the flood waters.

Apparently it was seen floating and was rescued a couple of times.  Eventually Laura Mann, the Promotion of the City Coordinator pulled it from the water again and rolled it up the hill to her office in the Old City Hall where Shelley Heiden picked it up.

The blueberry was originally presented by Heiden Creative and Stillson Studio in 2014 but after floating in the floodwaters a couple of times it was damaged and needed some repairs.  Lincolnway Auto Body assisted with those repairs and now the blueberry needs to be repainted.  Initially it had been painted by art students at Plymouth High School.  This time the sculpture will be painted by Jon Miller.

On Monday Miller was at the Heartland Artist Gallery to get started on the project which will be named, “Fabric of Life”.  This time the blueberry will feature designs from the various Barn Quilts around the county and hopes to be complete by the end of September.

Heartland Artist Galley will host a quilt show in September and hopes to have the blueberry sculpture completed by the end of the show.  They will also be displaying the Barn Quilt kids painted during the Art on the Street event this summer, and of course this all relates to the Marshall County Barn Quilt Tour.
