Grants_AwardedTwenty-nine PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) across Indiana will benefit from a $2.8M Federal Grant to enhance their 911 Equipment.

The purpose of the 911 Grant Program, provided by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, is to provide Federal funding to support the transition of PSAPs and their interconnecting 911 network and core services, to facilitate migration to a digital, IP-enabled emergency network, and adoption and operation of NG911 services and applications.

The grant is a 60/40 match where the PSAPs will be required to pay 40% of their project cost while the other 60% is covered by the grant funding.

Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel said, “In December we were forced into updating the administration phone system because of the failure of our current system and it was at end of life.”   The new system is Voice Over Internet Phone (VOIP) and the system that records all our administration telephones and radios is not compatible with the VOIP system so we applied for this grant to purchase a new recorder.

The total cost of the new recorder is $144,346.00.  The grant will pay $86,607.60 and the county will have to fund the remaining balance.
