HOYA_2Plymouth Mayor Mark Senter received notice from the Indiana Department of Workforce Development of a “WARN Act” (Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification) on Wednesday pertaining to the closing of an industry in town.

HOYA Optical Labs of American, Inc., formerly known as 3M, AO Safety and going way back American Optical, gave notice of their intentions to close the facility located at 2925 Gary Drive in Plymouth.

HOYA_logoOn Tuesday, August 6th the employees of HOYA were notified of the permanent plant closing.  The facility will be phasing out employees with the first phase set to occur on October 4th and the plant closure is expected to be completed by March 2, 2020.  The notice says, “We expect it to proceed gradually and in phases as work in transferred to other HOYA locations.”

Mayor Senter said approximately 83 employees will be impacted by this plant closing.

HOYA_1HOYA purchased the prescription part of 3M’s safety eyewear business, including the optical laboratory facility in Plymouth in December of 2016.
