Marshall_County_JailDuring the July 15th Marshall County Commissioners meeting, the request was presented by the County Maintenance Department to switch vendors for the new heating and cooling roof-top units at the Marshall County Jail.

During the first meeting in July, John Greer, Jail Maintenance Director presented quotes to replace the three roof-top units over the inmate area.  Low bid for the two-25 ton and one-20 ton unites was $204,680 from OJS Building Services. While the commissioners approved the bid, a contract had not been signed for the purchase and work.

On July 15th Greer and County Maintenance Director Doug Masterson asked the commissioners to reconsider their decision and award the project to Dynamic Mechanical Services, the next lowest bidder with a bid amount of $209,731.

Greer said the project is time sensitive.  It will take up to 19 weeks to have the units built and the county would like to have them installed before the weather gets too cold.  He also noted that installation is to be complete in a 24 hour period.

Masterson told the commissioner he is concerned with the previous work history of OJS.  They have done some work for the county and in his opinion, won’t be able to complete the project within the requested 24 hour period because of manpower.

Masterson said Dynamic Mechanical Services has done lots of work on the units at the jail and has the manpower and work experience to complete the project within the requested time frame.

The commissioners noted that the costs outweigh the risks with switching vendors on this project and approved Dynamic Mechanical Services for the work.
