County News # 1The Marshall County Drainage Board held a public hearing early this month on the request of the trustees of the Robert and Carolyn Kline property to do a reconstruction project on the John Kline Tile Drain in Union Township.

As many are aware of, the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council is pursuing a project for the public’s benefit to restore a levee at the south end of Lake Maxinkuckee.  To complete the project specific soils are necessary and they were found on the Kline property.  In the process of securing sufficient quantities of soil, a pond is proposed to be created in the John Kline Tile.

Member of the Kline family were supportive of the project that will help with the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental Council.

The County Drainage Board approved the reconstruction of the ditch noting that there will be no cost to the county to build the pond and that the spoils can be used to help repair the levee.

This project is the largest project to date of the Lake Maxinkuckee Environmental County Foundation to date.  They will be reconstructing a 1,500 foot levee on the southeast side of the lake which will help restore an 80 acre wetland that is vital to the ecological health of Lake Max.
