Plymouth Public Library (PPL) and the Plymouth Parks Department unveiled the Plymouth StoryWalk in Centennial Park on June 6th. This new addition to the park allows the public to combine a love of reading with a love of exercise. The first story entitled “Man on the Moon(a day in the life of Bob)” by Simon Bartram is now on display along the path.
“We are very excited about this as we are the only library around that offers such a thing for their community.” said Debbie Beck, Children’s Department Supervisor at PPL. “We originally got the idea after our Director, Heather Barron, attended an ALA (American Library Association) conference in Chicago and brought back some information regarding StoryWalks. We partnered with the Plymouth Parks Department to figure out a way to bring this cool, family-oriented outdoor attraction to Plymouth!” said Beck.

The PPL StoryWalk will begin at the bridge by the Amphitheater, on the east side, and follow along as the trail leaves the park in front of the soccer fields on Randolph Street. It then crosses the road and follows the trail along the woods on the west side, ending at the bridge located across from the high school. The Story Walk portion of the nature trail is approximately half a mile, so it’s not a large portion of the trail, but it is plenty to do for a family that might be out for a stroll.” said Beck.
Library patrons and local businesses have sponsored all 20 posts on the StoryWalk. Stories can still be sponsored for $100, which includes the purchase of two books and the processing involved. PPL plans to change the stories throughout the year to provide new books for families to read as they walk.
