PSW_6-22-19 Super StreetILVDIRT contributed an extra $1,109 to the winner of the Super Street Feature Saturday night and Kokomo’s Chris Hunter started on the pole and pocketed the cash.

Travis Wolford and David Short finished second and third but it seemed like all 20 starters took a turn at trying for the lead.

Early in the contest, Calvin Peek Jr. from his third starting spot was running on the bottom when he had car issues stacking up several cars behind and shuffling up the running order. The restart had cars faning out looking for a quick way to the front establishing two and three wide racing with Hunter out front out of the fray.

This same group of hard chargers will be running for $11,109 to win on July 13 in the ILVDIRT Throwdown  at the Playground. Last year the event brought cars from all over the midwest and beyond for some of the best full fender racing the dirt track has seen. This year the stakes are higher expected the unexpected from these racers.

PSW_6-22-19 600'sElkhart’s Bruce Clay picked up his first feature win in the 600 Non Wing Micros followed by the Jesse Holt of Columbus Ind. Brenton Lamb beat older brother Blake Lamb to the stripe to finish third. The draw and some very competitive heat racing had the field starting with the top points leaders buried back in the pack. Ed Cleveland leads the class by a slim six points started 18th in the 20 car field picked up the hard charger finishing 10th. Second in points, Chad Hartzell started 14th moving too 8th at the checkers. This class goes into Saturday’s Mid Season Championship with ten cars within reach of a points championship.

PSW_6-22-19 ModifiedsModifieds had some fresh faces on the podium with the always strong Zeke McKenzie capitalizing on some lap traffic to grab the lead and then he checked out with Michael Tarlton and Lima, Ohio’s Tony Anderson finishing second and third respectively.

This race had some fireworks on the track as Frank Marshall started on the pole and looked like he was on his way to running away with the race when he came up to the previously mentioned lapped traffic. Marshall was looking for a way around the soon to be lapped car which allowed McKenzie and points leader Derek Losh to catch up.

As Marshall worked to get around McKenzie was quick to respond to an opening low and slipped past. Next up was Losh as Marshall continued to run in the tracks of the lapped car. Losh and Marshall came together in turns 1 and 2 in an effort to get around Losh was ahead carried a slim lead over Marshall in turn three when Marshall got into the him hard causing both to spin.

Losh went to the rear of the 17 cars still racing and Marshall got a tow to the pits with broken front end parts.

Losh would go on to finish in fifth from his seventh starting spot but he had passed everyone on the track but McKenzie at least once. The fifth place finish protected his points lead especially with second  place Marshall collecting a DNF but McKenzie made progress on both from third.

PSW_6-22-19 SprintsThe CSR sprints race was a busy affair as cars where moving up and back as the early set up faded and allowed some that looked like they were out to lunch to make a run at the end.

New comer to the class Andrew Cockman started on the pole in his third feature since making the move from 600s. He lead several laps early but eventual winner Eli Lakin was able to make the top work and took the lead and the win. Kyle Gunkel, another racer from the 600 ranks, is getting thinks together with a strong second place finish over Lakeville’s Eric Saunders.

Saturday will feature more fireworks, this time in the night sky above the track. Mid Season Championship with all five classes in action and special Adult admission only $15 and race fans under 12 admitted free. It is also Autograph night with a chance to get all your favorite drivers autographs.
