Older Adult Services transportationThe Marshall County Commissioners conducted a public hearing during their meeting Monday on the request of the Marshall County Council on Aging to apply for a grant from the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).

Jackie Wright, Executive Director of the Council on Aging said the application is for the 2020 INDOT Funding for Public Transit that Older Adult Services is applying for.  She is applying for two new vehicles, a wheelchair accessible minivan and a 12 seat and 2 wheelchair mid-size bus.   The estimated value of the minivan is $37,100 and the bus is $56,200 for a total of $93,300.  The INDOT grant will pay $74,640 and the 20% local match will be covered by the Council on Aging.  That cost is $18,600.  These two vehicles will replace two current vehicles that have exceeded tier “useful life.”

There was no public comments and the commissioners unanimously authorized the filling of the application.

Commissioner Mike Delp commented on the number of one-way trips that were completed last year saying, “I think the public should know you did 26,436 one-way trips last year.”  Wright said the year before they did 24,393 one-way trips and it keeps going up.”  Transportation trips include things like visits to the doctor’s office, grocery
