Senator Randy Head 2018In a recent news release, Senator Randy Head said, “Recently, my colleagues and I were made aware of a registered sex offender in Indiana offering to babysit children through a post on Facebook.

This issue brought to light a loophole in Indiana code, as there was not a law preventing sex offenders from taking care of children.

To address this issue, I, along with State Senator Frank Mrvan (D-Hammond), authored Senate Enrolled Act 258 during the 2019 session.”
SEA 258 allows a court, as a condition of probation, to prohibit a child sex offender from having unsupervised contact or any contact with a child younger than 16. Under the bill, if an offender lives near their victim or a school, youth program center or public park, the court must inform the offender of certain restrictions.

Senator Head said, “Keeping our children safe is a top priority for me, and I believe this common-sense change will provide them with further protection.”
