The history of the National Day of Prayer dates back to 1787, when Benjamin Franklin requested that President George Washington to open each day with prayer.  It wasn’t until February 1952, during the Korean War that Reverend Billy Graham petitioned support of Representative Percy Priest to observe a national day of prayer.   On April 17, 1952 President Harry Truman signed the bill proclaiming the National Day of Prayer.  The National Day of Prayer is celebrated every year on the first Thursday of May.

At the conclusion of the Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast the request was made for participants to sign cards on their tables for Operation Quiet Comfort and they passed the basket for donations to the local Boy Scout Troops.
