City NEwsThe Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety was updated this week by various department heads on activities and projects.

Assistant Fire Chief, Steve Holm requested permission to apply for two grants.  Holm said the department would like to apply for an Operation Round Up Grant from Marshall County REMC in the amount of $5,000.  If successful the grant money would provide new CPR training equipment for the department.  The second grant is from FireHouse Subs and would be in the amount of $15,000.  Holm said they would like to purchase tactical protection vests, (bullet proof vests).  He noted in light of situations other departments have experienced across the nation they would like to offer added protection to firefighters.

The Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously approved the request.

Street Superintendent Jim Marquardt said the sidewalk request at 738 Thayer Street actually falls into the sidewalk intersection project scheduled with Nursery Street this year.  He confirmed that the project will be complete this year.

Marquardt also said he is waiting on the final signature from the property owners in the Lincoln Park subdivision that have light pillars setting on the personal property.  Marquardt said the removed the pillar at Kingston and Lincolnway East on the west side of the street.  The one on the east side was destroyed in a traffic accident this winter and has been removed.

The Street Superintendent said removing them really improved the sight lines.

The Board of Works also approved the request of Steve Harper from the P-Town Cruz’n Car Show to close Michigan Street from LaPorte Street to Adams Street on Saturday, June 8th.  The club will also need to seek approval from the state since Michigan Street is also State Road 17.
