Fire_7047 Ply-LaPorte_5Five fire departments responded to a barn fire on Plymouth LaPorte Trail Tuesday afternoon.

The initial call of a large barn on fire came into the Marshall County 911 Dispatch Center at 1:10.  As the Plymouth Fire Department was responding to the scene they were notified that Polk Fire was also being dispatched.   Arriving on scene the call went out for assistance and LaPaz, Walkerton and the Koontz Lake Fire Departments responded with tankers and man power.

Fire_7047 Ply-LaPorte_6The large barn was fully engulfed as Plymouth arrived on the scene and a small structure in front of the barn was already burned to the ground.  The fire even started to spread as a grass fire and Plymouth had to respond their grass fire rig for additional assistance.

The two story barn was a total loss and the entire contents which included an antique Studebaker and few other vehicles including a couple cars, a UTV and snowmobile were destroyed.  The barn also housed numerous antiques.

Fire fighters were on the scene approximately 3 hours and no injuries were reported.

Fire_7047 Ply-LaPorte_2According to the Marshall County GIS the property is listed as being deeded to Ned, Elizabeth and David Haag.

Assistant Fire Chief Steve Holm said the cause of the fire has not been determined yet.   The Plymouth Fire Department will conduct an investigation on the fire to determine the cause.
