County News # 1The Marshall County Commissioners handled a number of items during their meeting this week.

They approved the request of Robert Bosko to place a portion of his septic system’s perimeter drain in the county’s right-of-way and allow it to connect to a county regulated drain.

The commissioners unanimously approved the contract of $541,000 for the purchase of a new chipper and distributor for the County Highway Department.  The agreement is for 5 annual payments of $119,718.34.  Highway Superintendent Jason Peters said he will be adding the $60,000 from the sale of the old equipment to Starke County to help pay for the new equipment.  The commissioners will pay for the equipment using the Cum Cap fund.

Peters told the commissioners a sink hold has developed on Beech Road north of 17th Road.  He believes NIPSCO bored a gas line through a culvert.  The highway superintendent said NIPSCO wanted to physically see the sink so they were going to inspect the site this week.  He also said his department has already made two repairs to the sink hole.  The Town of Bourbon is going to assist by using their vac to clear the line.

Peters was given approved to advertise for a new employee to replace on that left this week.  An area leader turned in his resignation so Peters will accept applications for the position.  Applications are available on the county’s website at www.co.marshall.in.us or in the HR office on the second floor of the County Building during normal business hours.
