Capital CampaignThe Plymouth Aquatic Center, a development over 7 years in the making, is set to open its doors this fall. Tuesday evening Jerry Chavez, President and CEO of the Marshall County Economic Development Corp. gave members of the City Redevelopment Commission information on the need to raise additional funds for the project.

Approximately $8.4 million in funding has been secured, representing almost 90% of the project’s total capital investment. He said the Marshall County community has been invited to help contribute the remaining funds through the Aquatic Center Capital Campaign to make the center a fully functioning venue.

The Capital campaign will add amenities to the true competition pool including exterior signage, a community billboard, facility canopy, pool scoreboard, audio system, timing system, security system, water treatment system, asphalt parking lot, and much more. These amenities will contribute to the functionality of the Aquatic Center.

The Aquatic Center has been made possible by a unique financing plan that leveraged over $3 million of funding through the New Market Tax Credits and Regional Cities funding. The development broke ground in July 2018 and work is expected to be completed in early fall.   The finished product will be a 27,000 square foot facility with a 10-lane pool, 2 diving boards, 3 family changing rooms, and seating for over 435 people.

He said, “We are starting to knock on doors and ask for assistance once again to get us that 10% ($800,000) that we are missing to make this a very iconic aquatic center, one that this community and those people that are supporting it can be very proud of.”
