Townhouse_Water StreetDuring Monday’s Plymouth Common Council meeting, Mayor Mark Senter asked council members their thoughts on the proposed townhouses in the Water Street parking lot.

Senter said the Board of Public Works and Safety pushed forward with support of the housing project two weeks ago.  He also said that the Board of Zoning Appeals meeting brought forward several thoughts and concerns and he wanted to gauge the council’s feedback.  He also said, “We are going to look somewhere else for the project.”

City Attorney Sean Surrisi said, “We’ve been exploring some other options as people had suggested on the near west side of the downtown.”  He continued, “There’s not any city owned land that would be appropriate over there but if we could find a parcel that would work for the sight it might involve an outlay of cash as either a contribution to Habitat for Humanity for them to acquire the land or for the to acquire the land directly.”

Several council members were supportive of the project and the idea of finding a new location.  They were also supportive of the need to spend money to acquire the ground for the project.  It was noted that up to $50,000 was needed for the grant match.

Because of the idea of changing locations, the Special Board of Zoning Appeals meeting scheduled for March 19th has been cancelled.
