Marshall County Police, Tippecanoe Fire, Lutheran EMS, and Indiana State Police responded to a single vehicle crash near the address of 2838 18B Road in Tippecanoe Sunday night.

Arriving at the scene first responders found a pickup truck driven by James Conklin (55) of Tippecanoe had struck a utility pole, snapping the pole off and putting the area out of power for several hours.

James Conklin was pronounced dead at the scene by Lutheran EMS. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.  A passenger in the vehicle was not injured. The crash remains under investigation by Marshall County Police and John Grolich, County Coroner.  Grolich was assisted by Marc Felke, Deputy Coroner.

 

On Sunday, March 3, 2019 at approximately 5:37 p.m. the Marshall County
Sheriff`s Department received a 911 call in regards to a single vehicle crash on 18B Road
east of East Street (Tippecanoe). The caller stated a dark colored truck struck a
utility pole. Upon EMS and Fire arriving on scene, they located the driver, unconscious
and still buckled. EMS removed the driver and started CPR. A short time later, driver 1
was pronounced dead. Investigation revealed that driver 1 was traveling east on 18B Road
and was exceeding the posted speed limit and lost control on the icy roadway before
spinning 180 degrees and striking a utility pole on the south side of the roadway with
the driver`s door. The vehicle came to rest facing northwest.
