881 Broadway_1An apartment complex with multiple units on the city’s northwest side could be demolished in the next couple of months.

During Monday evening’s Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety meeting, City Building Commissioner Keith Hammonds asked the board to ratify the demolition order he sent to the two property owners at 881 Broadway Street, at the corner of Harrison and Broadway.

Hammonds said the building sit on five parcels and the party in Florida owns four of the parcels but the final parcel is locally owned and has the deed for the building connected to it.  While the Florida owner would like to remodel the apartments and rent them out, the local owner hasn’t showed any interest in the idea or selling the final parcel to the Florida owner.

881 Broadway_2Registered letters were sent to the owners giving them 60 days to demolish the structure or take other action.  If they don’t take any action, the city will take the case to Circuit Court and seek an order to demolish the structure and place a lien on the property for that cost.

Members of the Board of Public Works and Safety unanimously ratified the demolition order presented by the Plymouth Building Inspector.
