Marshall County Emergency Management Director, Clyde Avery said the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana’s Hydrological Outlook indicates that two round of rain and the possibility of ice jams on rivers will bring the potential for lowland and river flooding later this week into the weekend.

A combination of heavy rain and the recent snowmelt has over saturated the frozen ground which makes it favorable for flooding. The greatest chances for flooding are south of a line from Knox to Kendallville where rainfall amounts will be between 1 and 2 inches. Some rivers will likely go into flood stage later this week, especially those in the Maumee and Upper Wabash basins. Minor flooding is expected but a few rivers could reach moderate levels depending on where the heaviest rain falls.

Avery said, “If you live in a low lying area that is susceptible to flooding, you may want to implement actions now to avoid damage to your property.”
