Nixle_logoRecently the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received notice from the company that provides the NIXLE service that due to an increase in carrier costs, they will no longer be able to provide Short Message Service or text messages for “Community” and “Advisory” message types that are sent out on their system.

Sheriff Matt Hassel said, “They did inform us that they will continue to provide services on “Alert” messages as well as continuing to provide email messages for all three platforms.”

NXILE is a community information service that is provided free of charge to government agencies and is used by The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office, Marshall County EMA, Argos, Bourbon, Bremen, Culver, LaPaz, and Plymouth Police Departments, Bremen Fire, EMS and Town Utilities, and LaPaz Fire to distribute information to the citizens in Marshall County.

Citizens interested in receiving information will need to sign up for the service by simply going to www.nixle.com and following the prompts on the website.

The Sheriff said citizens can specify the level of importance of the messages they want to receive from the Nixle.com system.  These messages can range from important alerts to general community information.  Some examples of messages that may be sent are: evacuation notices, missing persons, water boil notices, traffic hazards, neighborhood watch information, hazardous weather information, or general safety notices.  Citizens may chose to receive notices for multiple locations including their home, work or other places they frequent.
