Riverside Intermediate School Mini-Mini Dance Marathon Sets School Fundraising Record

December 9, 2018

RIS_DanceMarathon2018_1Close to a dozen Plymouth High School students on the PHS Dance Marathon executive committee held a mini dance marathon at Riverside Intermediate School throughout the school day on Friday. More than 300 students took part in this year’s event raising a record amount of donation funds by the school – $8,600. Last year the event raised $7,240.

RIS_DanceMarathon2018_2Throughout the school year Riverside students have been hosting various events and fundraisers to raise money for the Mini-Mini Dance Marathon. The admission cost to attend the fun-filled event at RIS was also used as a way to generate funds. Students paid a set fee to be able to attend the all day event. Throughout the day Riverside students learned four different sections of a special dance routine choreographed by Plymouth High School PHS Dance Marathon executive committee members. Several spontaneous dance-offs were held during the day which kept students engaged while raising money for Riley Hospital for Children.

RIS_DanceMarathon2018_3Lunch was served around noon and at 2:45 p.m. a school-wide spirit assembly was held in the gymnasium. To end the 2018 Riverside Mini-Mini Dance Marathon students performed the special dance they learned in front of the whole school and then the grand total of this year’s fundraiser was announced.

RIS_DanceMarathon2018_4The PHS Dance Marathon student committee members are now planning their annual Mini Dance Marathon that will be held at Lincoln Jr. High School in the near future. All donations raised at Lincoln Jr. High and Riverside Intermediate School will be combined towards the grand fundraising total of the 8th annual Plymouth High School Riley Dance Marathon that will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 beginning at noon.

If you are part of a business and want to help with prepackaged snacks and beverages to keep the students energized throughout the day as they dance, please contact PHS English Teacher and Dance Marathon Advisor Stephanie Wezeman via email at swezeman@plymouth.k12.in.us.
