Local NewsThe City of Plymouth will conduct their regular meetings in the council chambers of City Hall on Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m. with the Board of Public Works and Safety.

The agenda for the Public Works and Safety meeting includes reports from the various city department heads, the ratification of an executive order to temporarily close West Jefferson Street for the Veterans Day Ceremony and consideration of a prepayment to BIS Digital for a new recording system in the new council chambers.   The board will also consider the Complete Streets Policy.

The Common Council meeting begins at 6:30 and includes a public hearing on the Tax Abatement request of American Container and another public hearing for additional appropriations.

The Common Council will also consider on second and third reading the ordinance fixing salaries for elected officials for 2019.  During the first reading there was some opposition to the proposal that would give the Clerk/Treasurer and Mayor a 3.5% raise and no increase for council members.  Councilman Gary Cook said city employees were receiving a 2% raise this year and he suggested the same for the mayor and clerk.

Councilman Don Ecker said he suggested the 3.5% increase since the mayor and clerk decided not to take a raise last year because it had just been announced that both Del Monte and Bay Valley would be closing their doors in the city.

Cook tried to stop the ordinance but his motion did not receive a second.  The council will take up the discussion again on Monday evening.

The city meetings are open to the public although comments and questions are limited to agenda items only.
