Members of the Marshall County Council approved a job description for the new part-time security officer during their meeting Tuesday morning. While they also approved the salary range, it wasn’t what Sheriff Matt Hassel had asked for.
Waggoner, Irwin and Scheele, the county’s HR Consultants provided the job description and wage recommendation. The hourly pay was recommended between $15.60 to $18.88 as a civilian POLE 1 employee or $18.87 to $23.19 for a POLE 3 compared to a full-time security officer.
Sheriff Hassel recommended going with the pay range of a POLE 1 employee but Councilman Jon VanVactor said the council needed to be consistent. He said the POLE 1 position for part-time turnkeys in the 2018 Salary Ordinance is $12.85.
VanVactor motioned to amend the 2018 Salary Ordinance and set the pay at $12.85 per hour for the part-time security officer. He also set the 2019 hourly pay at $13.35. Members of the county council unanimously approved salary amendment.
