American ContainerThe Plymouth City Council took the first step in the Tax Abatement process Tuesday evening, declaring the property at 2526 Western Avenue to be within an Economic Revitalization area.

Michael Isban said they currently have two projects going on in their organization; the first is renovating a piece of new equipment while the second is an automated core expander created by American Container.

Isban and Mark Badgley from American Container told the council they have purchased a piece of machinery that will assist with their small box food service accounts.   Their current machine puts out 90 pieces per minute and the new machine will make 350 pieces per minute.

The machinery is currently in Virginia being retrofitted to bring it up to the latest innovation in the corrugated industry.  It will be installed in January at American Container and Isban said it will be about one-third of the cost of a new machine.

Isban said the honeycomb auto expander will remove the physical demand on their employees.  Current methodology requires two employees to manually spread the honeycomb up to 120 inches.  They create less than 1 per minute while the auto expander will open and position 5 pieces per minute and removed the physical demand on their employees.

American Container will invest $1,189,000 on the two projects.

The Plymouth Common Council unanimously passed a resolution declaring the American Container real-estate to be within an economic revitalization area.

A public hearing on the tax abatement request will take place at the next city council meeting on November 26th.
