Ray ReedA request to rename a short portion of US 30 is one step closer thanks to a letter of support from the Marshall County Commissioners.

During Monday’s commissioner meeting Hurshel Hunter, President of Plymouth FOP Lodge 195 and member Dave Lattimer told the commissioners they came up with the idea to rename US 30 between Oak Drive and Pioneer Drive as the Ray Reed Memorial Drive about 4 years ago.  Since that time they have been working with our legislators down state and then got Commissioner Kevin Overmyer and County Council President Judy Stone on board.

The pair has been asked by the state to seek letters of support from both the county and the city.

Ray Reed was killed in the line of duty while inspecting a semi on the shoulder of the west bound lane of US 30 between the railroad crossing and Pioneer Seed on August 3, 1995 in a very tragic accident.

The County Commissioners unanimously approved having the county attorney write a letter of support for the renaming.

Hunter said, “There is still no guarantee that this will get passed down state this time.”  He also said, “Most of all, this is for the family.  Honoring this man that dedicated his life and gave his life to the service of the State of Indiana.”
