Seven Riverside Intermediate students presented an overview of their academic projects to the Plymouth School Board on Monday, November 5. Principal Kyle Kaufman said the students worked on their projects in the school’s SOAR program. Kaufman said the students meet four times each week in an enrichment program as a part of Riverside’s attention to brain-based learning.
Students presenting included: Cody Wheeler, Zack Kresser, Matt Finney, Dominic Clark, Dawson Kiefer, Cole Lunetta, and Aiden Saver. Sixth grade social studies and science teacher, Sarah Gillard, worked with the students on both a catapult project and a diorama of the Battle of LaDrang.
The students explained that the first uses of catapults were in ancient Greece. After each member of their groups made their own devise, they held five trials using lima beans.
The study of LaDrang was an example of wars such as the Vietnam Conflict, according the students. They indicated that they learned the rules of warfare by reading and researching.
