Randy Head-2012Senator Randy Head said in a recent news release, “Improving our workforce remains a top priority for Indiana, and state leaders continue to create programs and pass legislation to help prepare Hoosiers for employment and fill jobs.”

He went on to say, “Our state has made huge strides under the governor’s Next Level Jobs Program, which, with support from the General Assembly, helps Hoosiers by leading students on a path to success, developing learning opportunities for adult workers and providing employers with tools they need to recruit, train and retain talent.”

Senator Head provided a list that shows Indiana’s recent progress in developing a stronger workforce.

  • More than 10,000 Hoosiers are enrolled in high-wage, high-demand Workforce Ready Grant programs at Ivy Tech, Vincennes or local training providers;
  • More than 450 Hoosier employers are training nearly 7,000 workers under the Employer Training Grant Program;
  • There are more than 17,000 active apprenticeships across Indiana as well as an Office of Work-Based Learning and Apprenticeship developing Earn and Learn pipelines between students and employers in county after county;
  • Nearly 1,000 state prison inmates are receiving high-value certificates in coding, welding and more – well ahead of the governor’s 2020 goal;
  • The Governor’s Workforce Cabinetrecommendations are in place to better align programs and dollars and make high school career and tech education funding outcome-driven; and
  • Locally created graduation pathways are moving more Hoosier students away from a one-size-fits-all high school experience.
